Emotions are gaining increasing attention in environmental and sustainability education (ESE) as a dynamic field of research shaped by various disciplines. In this keynote, Mandy Singer-Brodowski presents key theoretical perspectives and empirical findings on the role and significance of emotions in sustainability-related learning processes across different age groups. In addition, she explores practical approaches and pedagogical strategies for addressing emotions in teaching – providing relevant insights for those involved in education, research, and curriculum development in the field of ESE.

The public keynote is part of the International Autumn School "Moral Emotions in Green Transition" taking place in Heidelberg from October 6 to 9, 2025, a cooperation of  Heidelberg School of Education and Copenhagen University.
